Thursday December 5th 8:30am to 11:30am
Monday December 9th 5:30pm to 8:30pm
Steps to Apply to the Community-Based Academic English Program

We also make applying easier by coordinating with community organizations or individual sponsors when requested.
The Community Based Academic English program offers classes in a variety of levels. The placement test allows us to assess your English level and place you in the correct classes.
*New students—Placement testing sign-up is included in the application.
*Returning students who have taken the placement exam within the last 15 months may be exempted from the exam. Email [email protected] to inquire about exemption.
Step 2
Payment & Course Sign-Up
Many of our students are eligible for scholarships. Following placement testing, students are emailed further information regarding scholarship eligibility and payment. Without a scholarship, the cost of classes are:
$300 3 Credit Hours, 1 Class
$600 6 Credit Hours, Double Class
$25-50 Per Textbook
You will be offered courses after placement testing based on your English proficiency. Please check your email for your course schedule.
About the Community Based Academic English Program
- Classes located at the Clarkston campus of Georgia State's Perimeter College
- Academic courses are offered on weekdays in the morning and evening
- 14-week courses, equating to 42 hours of in-class instruction, create the opportunity to improve academic English skills
- Preparation and support for applying to Georgia State or Perimeter College (for students placed in all level 4/5 courses ONLY)
- Scholarships available for displaced people
- Classes meet in-person with small class sizes, typically 10-15 students
- Academic reading and writing courses at various English proficiencies
- Free assessment of English proficiency for best placement
- No Visa required
- Experienced instructors dedicated to your academic success
- Students are provided with free tutoring, tech skills development sessions, and weekly intercultural conversation exchange opportunities

* Students on F Visas are not eligible for the Community Based Academic English Program, but can still learn English with us! Visit iep.gsu.edu for more details and to apply for our Intensive English Program (IEP).
